Environmental Policy

We are constantly reviewing our use of products and services that may be harmful to the environment. In general we throw little away, most packaging (i.e. cardboard, plastic air pocket type packaging, bubblewrap etc) sent to ourselves is re-used as packaging for internet orders. We use minimal energy to heat our premises (which seems to maintain the same low temperature anyway!).

Recent Changes

  • Paper  15/01/08 - We have just changed our paper to a type that is 100% recycled from post-consumer waste, and is not bleached. We try not to use masses of paper, but every order requires a despatch note and a receipt.
  • Toner 17/01/08 - Previously we have purchased new, or remanufactured (where available) toner cartridges. However after a little research, all of our printers can easily and safely be refilled with a little time and some low cost toner sourced off the internet! Eventually the toner cartridge will require replacement, however even one refill would offer significant environmental, and cost savings when compared to throwing them away.
  • Padded Envolopes 22/01/08 - We have just received our first delivery of Jiffy brand padded envolopes, with a minimum content of 72% recycled fibres. However we still have stocks of the Jiffy bubblewrap padded envolopes in some sizes, but as they run out the replacements will be Jiffy ones with the recycled fibres.
  • Recycled Cardboard Tubes 05/02/08 - We have ordered a quantity of recycled cardboard tubes. These will allow us to send curtain poles / rails, wardrobe rails etc. safely, without the use of new wood.
  • Electronic Receipts 09/04/08 - We are currently looking into providing our customers with an emailed receipt by default, but offering a printed receipt as an option. This would, providing enough people dont opt for a printed receipt, reduce our paper consumption considerably.  UPDATE: 01/05/08 - We have changed over to an email receipt system, only providing printed receipts when requested. Telephone orders will automatically receive a printed receipt.

We don't claim to be a green company, but we'd like to think we can make a difference, nomatter how small. Any suggestions on how you think we can improve, please email us.
